Can I pay my taxes on an automatic pre-authorized payment plan?
No, we do not currently have a pre-authorized payment plan. You may however leave post dated cheque’s at the office or set up post dated payments through your telephone or online banking.
When are my property taxes due?
Taxes are due the last working day (Monday-Friday) of March and September.
How much are my taxes going to be?
Once the tax rate has been set for the year a link will be posted on the left side of this page.
How are my taxes calculated?
Property taxes are calculated by the assessed value of your property multiplied by the tax rate for that tax classification. Some properties have special area charges added on as well for streetlights.
For example if your 2015 assessment was $100 000 RT (residential) your taxes would be:
$100 000 x .00555587 = $555.59 municipal portion
$100 000 x .00367257 = $367.26 counties portion
$100 000 x .00195000 = $195.00 school board portion
$100 000 x .01117844 = $1,117.84 TOTAL
How is the assessment of my property determined?
The assessed value of your property is determined by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. For more information contact MPAC at https://www.aboutmyproperty.ca, www.mpac.on.ca or 1-866-296-MPAC (6722).
Can I appeal my assessment?
Yes, you can file a Request for Reconsideration through the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. We have the forms here, or you can obtain them from MPAC’s web site at www.mpac.on.ca . The deadline for 2015 assessment RfR’s is April 1, 2015.
How can I change the school support on my Tax Notice?
You can obtain an application to change your school support from the MPAC web site at www.mpac.on.ca or by contacting the Brockville office at 613-342-3296.
How do I know what tax class my property is assessed in?
Assessment codes determine the appropriate tax rate(s) and school support to be applied to your property. The first letter in the represents the tax class: R = residential, F = farm, C = commercial, I = industrial and T = managed forest. The second letter represents the tax liability associated with the property: T = fully taxable, U = excess land and X = vacant land.
How can I pay my tax bill?
You may pay your tax bill at our office by cash, cheque or debit. (No credit cards) You may mail a cheque to the office ( Township of Augusta 3560 County Rd 26, RR 2 Prescott, ON K0E 1T0). You may pay at your financial institution provided you have your tax bill with you, or you can pay through your telephone or internet banking. (using your roll # as the account #). How are my property taxes calculated?
Taxes are calculated by multiplying the Assessed Value of your property by the Municipal Tax Rate PLUS the Assessed Value of your property by the Education Tax Rate PLUS the Assessed Value of your property by the County Tax Rate.
Where can I make payments?
Payments may be made in person at the Township Office, 3560 County Road 26 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For your after hours convenience there is a drop box located by the front door of the Township Office.
Payments may be mailed to: Township of Augusta, 3560 County Rd 26 RR 2, Prescott ON K0E 1T0. Please ensure that your payment is mailed well before the due date. Only those mailed with a post mark prior to the due date will be exempt from penalty and interest.
Payments may also be made by telephone or internet banking. When setting up your account the account number is your 15 digit roll number that starts with 0706 ( 0706 000 000 00000).
Payments may be made at most chartered banks through bank machines or at the teller. Please ensure that you have your tax bill in order to have your payment accepted.
What are the penalties for late payments?
Interest is charged at a rate of 1.25% and is calculated on the arrears. Interest is added on the tax arrears at the start of each calendar month.
For example, if you had taxes due the 30th of September, 2015 in the amount of $500.00 then on the 1st of October an interest charge of $6.25 is added to the balance. If the balance remains unpaid for the month then on the 1st of November another $6.25 is added to the balance.
How are payments applied to taxes with arrears?
Using the example above, if you made a payment of $500.00 in November then $12.50 of your payment will be applied directly to the interest owed first. This will leave only $487.50 to be applied to the original $500.00 therefore you will still owe $12.50 in taxes. This will continue to gather penalty of $0.16 per month on the first day of each calendar month. This will continue to accumulate until the amount owed is paid in full.
I have moved, how do I redirect my tax bill?
Please ensure that you forward a change of address card to the Township at 3560 County Rd 26 RR 2, Prescott ON K0E 1T0.
I have sold my property, what happens to my tax bill?
With most real estate transactions, the purchaser’s solicitor should request a tax certificate from our office. This will allow for adjustments to be made at the time of disbursements of the funds.
Please be aware however, that the Township cannot legally change the title on a tax bill until we have been notified by MPAC of the sale transaction. This information is given to MPAC by the solicitor when the title is registered at the Land Registry Office in Prescott.
Is my property eligible for a vacancy rebate?
Commercial or industrial properties that have been vacant for 90 consecutive days may apply for a rebate of property taxes. The deadline for submitting these forms is February 28 of the following taxation year to which the application relates.

I have had a fire and lost some of my buildings – how do I let you know to take those off of my tax bill?
If you have suffered a loss to some of your property you may be eligible for a reduction in your assessment. You must fill in an application form (Formerly known as a 442) at the Township Office, or by clicking here.
What is the County Levy?
The County portion of your tax bill represents levies made by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville to pay for such services as road maintenance on County roads, the Health Unit, ambulance service and social services.
The County rate is set by the County Council. For more information on the County process please contact the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville directly at (613) 342-3840.
Who sets the tax rates?
The Tax Rates are set by the Council and must be established by By-Law. The tax rates are normally set in conjunction with the adoption of the Municipal Budget annually.
What is the school board levy?
The school board portion of your tax bill represents funds that are allocated for education purposes. You have the option of stipulating which board your taxes are directed to – English Public (EP), English Separate (ES), French Public (FP) or French Separate (FS).
I don’t have children – why do I pay school taxes?
We all benefit from education at some point during our lives. Whether you have children or not, we must all work together to ensure that the funds which were available when you were a child for education will continue to exist for our future generations.
What are tax classes?
Tax Classes are determined by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), the same entity that determines your assessment. Different classes are taxed at different rates. For example, Large Industrial/Industrial/Commercial/Multi-Residential classes are all taxed at a higher rate than the Residential Tax Rate. The Farm and Managed Forest Classes are much lower than the Residential Tax Rate.
Can a property have more than one tax class?
Yes. A portion of a property can be taxed at different rates. These are identified on your tax bill.
