The Municipal Administration Department is governed by provincial legislation, mainly the Municipal Act, the Municipal Elections Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Privacy Act. The Municipal Administration Department provides an essential link to the public and support to Council, Boards and committees.
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)
The CAO for the Township of Augusta provides advice to Council about the Township’s organization and operating procedures and is responsible for the overall administration of municipal departments. The CAO ensures that all municipal departments are providing quality service in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner.

Preparation of Agendas and Minutes for Council and Committees
All Township meetings are open to the public (unless otherwise stated). Agendas and minutes are posted on the website. The Township is committed to community engagement and encourage residents to be part of the process.
Council Delegation Requests
The general public who wish to address council may do so as a delegation. Your intention to speak at council is required in writing no later than end of day on the Wednesday prior to the next scheduled council meeting. The Clerk’s Department is responsible for the record keeping system including: distribution, use, maintenance, and disposition of recorded information maintained as evidence of business activities.
The Clerk’s Department is responsible for the preparation and overall conduct of the Municipal Elections as the Returning Officer.
Issuance of various licences under the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
Marriage Licence and Civil Marriage Ceremonies
The Township of Augusta is now offering the service of providing marriage licences. Marriage licences are available at the Municipal office during regular business hours by appointment. Please call our Clerk, Annette Simonian, at extention 105 to set up an appointment time to come in. The fee for a licence is $100.
Documentation needed to obtain a licence:
- Marriage application form signed by both parties. You can download the form HERE.
- Valid passport or original birth certificate (copies not accepted)
- One piece of government issued ID
If either party divorced, an original copy of the divorce decree (photocopy not acceptable). If divorce was outside of Ontario, please consult the Clerk’s Department for further details.
Completed application can be submitted by one applicant, but all proper identification is required for the absent person as well as for the person submitting the application.
Marriage Ceremonies – The Clerk is authorized to perform civil marriages in the Province of Ontario. The fee for a civil marriage is $250 and $50 for rehearsal. Marriages can be performed during business hours or on night or weekends subject to staff availability. Mileage is extra depending on the location of ceremony.

Commissioner of Oath
The Clerk, CAO and Treasurer may act as a Commissioner of Oaths. To have a document commissioned, all parties must provide valid photo ID and sign the document in front of the Commissioner (do NOT sign ahead of time).
