BEING A BY-LAW TO AUTHORIZE CIVIL MARRIAGE SOLEMNIZATION SERVICES AND ISSUANCE OF MARRIAGE LICENSES IN THE TOWNSHIP OF AUGUSTA

BY-LAW NUMBER 3763-2025
BEING A BY-LAW TO AUTHORIZE CIVIL MARRIAGE SOLEMNIZATION SERVICES
AND ISSUANCE OF MARRIAGE LICENCES IN THE TOWNSHIP OF AUGUSTA
WHEREAS Ontario Regulation 285/04 provides for the authorization of the Clerk to
solemnize marriages with the authority of a license;
AND WHEREAS Section 228(4) of the Municipal Act,2001. as amended provides that
the Clerk of the municipality may delegate any of the Clerk’s powers and duties under
this or any other act;
AND WHEREAS pursuant to Section 11(2) of the Marriage Act, R.S.O. 1990, the
Minister of Government Services may appoint the Clerk of a local municipality as a
person authorized to issue marriage licenses in and for the municipality;
AND WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Augusta deems it
expedient for public convenience that the Clerk and Deputy Clerk of the Township of
Augusta be appointed in such capacity.
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Augusta enacts
as follows:
1. THAT the Clerk and Deputy Clerk are hereby authorized to issue marriage licenses to
the public: and
2. THAT the fees for said services shall be set as per the current Fees and Charges By
Law; and
3. THAT this By-Law shall come into full force and effect on the date of passing.
