Powering Up with Native Plants – Part 2

May 2 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

The Augusta Township & Area Butterflyway Project Committee has partnered, again, with The Maitland Tower HippoCampus to host a “part 2” native plant learning event on Saturday May 2nd, 2026 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. We are excited to inspire and empower you to make a difference in the environment of your yard, our community and our world.

– Learn why planting native plants is important for us, all wildlife and pollinators. Explore how gardens, lawns and waterfronts can be naturalized.
– Join in to learn alongside the amazing cultivation activist, Lorraine Johnson, Thousand Islands Master Gardener, Beverley Wagar, and JD Van Allen from Eden’s Refuge. https://lorrainejohnson.ca/https://1000islandsmastergardeners.ca/https://www.edensrefuge.ca/
– Learn where to source native plants and what to buy, and purchase directly with local native plant vendors Naturaide https://www.naturaide.ca/ and Biosphere Native Plants https://www.facebook.com/share/1E24adQCfb/?mibextid=wwXIfr
– Purchase beautiful nature-based cards from Lens to Nature Photography https://lenstonaturephotography.com/
– The local Butterflyway Project Committee will provide updates on the progress of the Augusta Township & Area Butterflyway Project. Drop by to discuss how we can help you naturalize your gardens and lawn with native plants.
– Take away “free” native plant seeds from the Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library https://wildflowerseedlibrary.ca/
– Kids can create pollinator crafts to inspire their connection to native plants and our environment.
– We invite everyone to attend a workshop in the Dirty Paws Lab, explore the booths and check out nature-based items for purchase or for free.
– View the Maitland Tower and just-restored Chart House at this stunning historic local property. https://www.maitlandtower.ca/about/

– This is a free “rain or shine” event, with donations greatly appreciated to help support the day and further the work of our local Butterflyway Project. We are thankful for a grant from the South Nation Conservation Authority and a donation from the Maitland Education and Recreation Centre, both of which have supported this event.

Parking, and the organizations supporting this event, will be located at the Maitland Tower at 1243 County Road 2 in Maitland.
