Taxes and Utilities
When are tax bills mailed out, and when are they due?
Tax bills are mailed at the beginning of March and September, with payment due on the last business day of those months.
Can I sign up for a preauthorized payment plan?
Yes, you can sign up for our preauthorized payment plan. Payments will be automatically deducted on the 15th of every month. To enroll, simply complete the form and return it to our office. You only need to submit it once to set up the plan.
I’m having trouble with my water. Did the Township shut it off? Are there fire hydrants?
Augusta Township does not operate a municipal water system. Each property relies on private wells and septic systems, which are the owner’s responsibility. There are no fire hydrants in the township.
Roads, Waste, & Public Works
Who should I contact about a road issue (e.g., tree down, dead animal, drainage)?
For Township-maintained roads, contact the Public Works Department at 613‑925‑4231 ext. 301 or submit details via our Contact Us page.
For County roads, call Leeds & Grenville Public Works at 613‑342‑3840 ext. 2413.

Why hasn’t my garbage or recycling been collected?
The Township does not provide curbside collection. Residents must use our waste transfer stations. Visit our Waste Management & Recycling page for details.
What are the Transfer Station hours?
Maynard Transfer Station: Mon–Fri 9 AM–5 PM; Sat 8 AM–4 PM
North Augusta Transfer Station: Tue & Thu 9 AM–5 PM; Sat 8 AM–4 PM
A streetlight is out—how can it be fixed?
Email the Public Works and Recreation Coordinator or call 613‑925‑4231 ext. 301, including the location and your contact details. We will arrange for repair.
Building, Zoning & Property
When is a building permit required?
Permits are needed for any structure over 10 m² (108 ft²), including pools deeper than 1 ft, party tents, and portable sheds. See our Building Information & Applications page for full details.
What are the regulations for installing a fence?
While fences do not require a permit, they must comply with the Zoning By-law. See our Fences & Fence Viewers page for guidelines.
Can I place a sea-can/storage container on my property?
Not permitted on residential properties, except temporarily with a valid building permit during construction. Contact the Chief Building Official at 613‑925‑4231 ext. 106.
Can I place a mobile home on my property?
No, mobile homes are only permitted in designated parks within the township.
I want to build a [structure] — Can I?
Contact the Planning Department at 613‑925‑4231 ext. 104 with the address to confirm zoning and obtain guidance.
Can I keep livestock or operate a hobby farm?
Hobby farms require a minimum of 2 hectares (4.94 acres). Adhere to MDS guidelines from OMAFRA. Contact the Planning Department to verify zoning and approval requirements.
Can I operate a home-based business?
Home businesses are allowed in many zones. Please contact the Planning Department or submit a Planning Inquiry Request Form with your property address.
Moving Here, Mail and Property Services
There are no mailboxes at the end of my driveway—how can I get one?
Some areas receive mail from centralized mailboxes. Contact your local Canada Post office or visit their website for setup instructions.
My mailing address says Brockville, but I live in Maitland—why?
Canada Post assigns mailing addresses based on delivery routes, which may cross municipal boundaries. Mailing addresses (e.g., Prescott, North Augusta, Oxford Mills, Spencerville, Brockville) may not reflect actual township boundaries.
Can I get a survey or map of my property?
Contact the Planning Department at 613‑925‑4231 ext. 104, or submit a Planning Inquiry Request Form, to see what records are available.
Where can I obtain a police or vulnerable sector check? Does Augusta have its own police?
Augusta is served by the OPP (Grenville County—Prescott Detachment) at 200 Development Drive, Prescott. Visit the station to apply for police checks.
Wildlife, Drainage & Environmental Concerns
A beaver is causing flooding on a municipal drain—what should I do?
Contact Public Works at 613‑925‑4231 ext. 301, and we will inspect the issue.
There’s wildlife (e.g. fox, raccoon) on my property—can the Township remove it?
The Township does not provide wildlife removal services. Please contact a licensed wildlife control agency for assistance.
Real Estate & Township-Owned Property
Can I buy Township land or a tax-forfeited property?
We do not publicly disclose details about delinquent properties. If a property becomes available, it will be listed on our website, Facebook page, and in local newspapers. The process can take several months.
Are there outstanding permits or issues on a house I’m interested in?
You may request a Building Compliance Letter for a $100 fee. Buyers must have their lawyer request this; current owners may request it directly. The Chief Building Official will review the property file and provide relevant information.
Wells & Septic Systems
Where can I find well records?
Well records are maintained by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. Call the Well Help Desk at 1-888-396-9355 or access records via the Ontario Well Records interactive map online.
Where can I find information about my septic system?
South Nation Conservation handles septic permits in Augusta and retains historic records from the former Leeds & Grenville Health Unit. Call 613‑984‑2948 or visit their website to apply for septic permits.
