Media Release – Augusta Township Celebrates the 2025 Business and Community Awards

Augusta, ON – Augusta Township, alongside the Economic Development and Tourism Committee, proudly hosted the 2025 Business and Community Awards Breakfast on Friday, November 7th, 2025, in Maitland, Ontario, recognizing outstanding contributions from local businesses, leaders and community members.

The event began with an inspiring presentation by guest speaker David Beatty, who spoke about challenges and realities of today’s global economy and the impact of international trade pressures on Canadian businesses. He shared his outlook on the future of manufacturing and emphasized his commitment to keeping production in Canada wherever possible. Beatty highlighted the importance of resilience, adaptability, and supporting Canadian-made products to strengthen the local and national economy—connecting these themes to how small businesses in Augusta can continue to thrive by focusing on community collaboration, quality craftsmanship, and local support.

Following the keynote address, the Township presented this year’s Business and Community Awards to the following recipients:

  • Agriculture Leadership Award: Dale Countryman
  • New Business of the Year: Dixon’s General Store & Café
  • Community Builder Award: Donna Travis
  • Young Professional of the Year: Kyle Knapp
  • Business of the Year: Artisan Kitchen & Bath
  • Legacy Award: Elmer Covill & Lloyd Knapp

“It is so important to acknowledge our businesses and residents once a year formally and to say thank you for making a difference in our community. This year, our Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee had a challenging time deciding on the finalists of each category. I want to thank the committee members and staff for the selection process and the Business of the Year program.” said Mayor Jeff Shaver. “A special thank you to our guest speaker, David Beatty, who enlightened everyone on the current global economic situation. Great work Team Augusta.”

The Township extends sincere thanks to the Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee for organizing this successful event and to all who attended in celebration of Augusta’s achievements. Congratulations to all nominees and award winners.
