Township of Augusta Approves 2025 Operating and Capital Budget
Augusta, ON – The Township of Augusta Council has passed the 2025 Municipal Budget at the council meeting held on February 24th, 2025, approving a tax rate increase of 12.26 per cent.
The 2025 Budget strikes a balance between supporting community needs and delivering essential services, while limiting the property tax increase on residents and businesses. An average property assessed at $203,000 will see a yearly tax increase of $176.83 on the Township’s portion of their annual tax bill.
“As we conclude our 2025 budget deliberations, we have navigated significant challenges, particularly with rising costs and urgent infrastructure needs,” says Shannon Geraghty, CAO of the Township of Augusta. “However, within these challenges lie valuable opportunities for investment that will enhance our community’s resilience and vitality. By strategically allocating our resources, we can meet immediate needs while also laying the foundation for a brighter, more sustainable future for all residents.”
Key Highlights of the 2025 Budget:
- Infrastructure upgrades with road overlays, drainage improvements, and sustainable surface treatments.
- Enhanced firefighter safety with updated extrication tools and gear.
- Fire inspection repairs and new community camp programs for children.
- Ongoing waste management and recycling efforts for a greener community.
- Economic development to support local businesses and attract new residents.
- Investment in new industries to diversify the economy and create jobs.
- Improvements in planning, administration, and facilities to enhance services and livability.
The overall budget for 2025 is $9,649,101, with $1,919,432 allocated to capital projects, supporting both infrastructure upgrades and community-building initiatives.
“Augusta’s Council had an exceedingly difficult decision this year with the 2025 tax rate. Increasing costs in all areas had the effect of depleting our operational reserves,” says Jeff Shaver, Mayor of the Township of Augusta. “Council reviewed all expenses, future financial and strategic investments. Council members decided unanimously that going forward and continuing to introduce more industry, small businesses and residential housing would be a positive financial result in the next few years. Our land investments are showing favourable results and new housing developments in our settlement areas are beginning in their initial phases. Council prioritized that future growth of housing and industry must develop within our Township over the next few years. Partnering with our municipal neighbours to save costs and continued conversations with our Provincial and Federal Governments will assist us reaching our goals as a Township. Plus, with the assistance of our valued community volunteers within the municipality will confirm that Augusta Township is the perfect place to live and work.”
The Township of Augusta is committed to delivering a responsible and sustainable budget that addresses both current needs and future growth. As the Township moves forward, Council will continue to prioritize investments that foster a vibrant community for residents and businesses alike. With strategic planning, collaboration and ongoing community involvement, Augusta Township is well-positioned to meet the challenges of today while paving the way for a brighter and more successful future for all.
