Conservation Authorities in the Township of Augusta

Conservation Authorities play a vital role in managing and protecting Augusta Township’s water resources, natural habitats, and regulating development in environmentally sensitive areas.

Rideau Valley Conservation Authority

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) helps protect and manage natural resources within parts of Augusta Township under Ontario’s Conservation Authorities Act. Their work focuses on safeguarding people, property, and ecosystems in the Rideau watershed.

  • Reviewing development proposals near waterbodies, wetlands, and other sensitive features
  • Regulating construction or land alterations in floodplains, shorelines, and wetlands
  • Providing environmental guidance for sustainable land use
  • Managing natural hazards such as flooding and erosion

Do I Need a Permit?

Before you start a project near a waterbody, wetland, steep slope, or floodplain, check whether you need a permit under Ontario Regulation 41/24: Prohibited Activities, Exemptions and Permits.

Permits may be required for:

  • Building or expanding a structure near a watercourse or wetland
  • Grading, filling, or excavating land in a regulated area
  • Shoreline work (docks, erosion control, etc.)
  • Altering a watercourse or drainage pattern

Always contact the appropriate Conservation Authority before beginning your project to confirm if a permit is required.

If you are unsure which Conservation Authority applies to your property, please refer to the Leeds Grenville Conservation Authority Map or call the Township Office for assistance.
