Township of Augusta Official Plan
The Official Plan is a key document that guides how land is used and developed in Augusta Township. It outlines Council’s long-term vision for the community and helps ensure that growth is well-planned, sustainable, and meets the needs of both residents and businesses.
This plan serves as a roadmap for decision-making on land use, development, infrastructure, housing, the environment, and more.
What Is the Official Plan?
The Official Plan is a policy document required under the Planning Act of Ontario. It outlines the Township’s goals, objectives, and development policies for the coming years. Every planning decision—whether it is about a new subdivision, a zoning change, or rural land protection—must align with the Official Plan.
Additionally, the Township’s Official Plan must comply with the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville's Official Plan and align with the Provincial Planning Statement (PPS). The Township is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of the Official Plan. Updates on this process can be found on the Official Plan Review 2025/2026 page.
The Plan covers areas such as:
- Where housing, businesses, and public spaces should be located
- Infrastructure and road development
- Environmental protection
- Agricultural land use
- Heritage and cultural resources
- Economic development priorities
The Official Plan must be reviewed periodically, and public input is a key part of that process.
Why It Matters to You
Whether you are a property owner, developer, or resident, the Official Plan can affect:
- What you can build and where
- How land near your home may be developed in the future
- Where new parks, roads, or businesses may go
Understanding the Official Plan helps you stay informed about the future of your neighbourhood and your Township.

Apply for an Official Plan Amendment
If your proposed development or use of land doesn’t align with the current Official Plan, you may need to apply for an Official Plan Amendment (OPA).
This process often goes hand-in-hand with a Zoning By-law Amendment, which updates the zoning on a property to reflect the proposed use.
Application Form:
Before applying, we recommend discussing your proposal with the Township’s Planning Department to confirm whether an amendment is necessary.
