About MERC
MERC Hall, as it is more commonly known, was built in 1987 and operates as a not‑for‑profit community facility. It is managed by a volunteer committee, the Maitland Education Recreation Corporation, established in 1964. The committee is dedicated to providing educational, recreational, and community programs for residents of all ages.
Programs offered at MERC include:
- Children’s soccer
- Adult baseball
- Senior luncheons
- Senior exercise classes
- Outdoor skating
- Ski, snowshoe, and walking trails
MERC also awards an annual bursary to graduating high school students from the local community.
Hall Features
MERC offers a spacious, fully accessible venue suitable for a wide range of events, including weddings, celebrations, A popular venue for weddings and special events, MERC Hall is available for public rental and offers a flexible, fully accessible space suitable for a wide range of occasions.

A baseball diamond equipped with bleachers and lights, supporting adult baseball programs and community events.
MERC’s playground received a significant update in the summer of 2023, offering modern equipment for children and families.

Located behind MERC are several relatively flat cross‑country ski, snowshoe, and walking trails made possible through the generosity of local landowners. These trails offer:
- Routes of varying lengths
- A rest shelter
- An outhouse
- Directional signage
Users can enjoy short loops or longer excursions depending on their preference.
