Road Maintenance Services (May – October)
The Township provides various maintenance services to keep rural roads in optimal condition throughout the warmer months. Services typically include:
Dust Control
Calcium Chloride is applied to freshly graveled and newly graded roads from May to June to minimize dust and maintain the road surface shape.
Patching
Potholes and road depressions are filled with hot or cold mix materials to restore the road edges.
Roadside Mowing
Grass along the roadside is cut back in June and July to maintain proper sightlines for drivers.
Brushing/Ditching
Brushing and ditching activities are conducted on roads where drainage is impeded or vegetation is interfering with traffic flow.
Sweeping
Hard-top roads and streets are swept during April and May, ideally when wet to reduce dust.
Culvert Replacement
When culverts corrode or fail to function properly, they are replaced to ensure proper drainage and to support the weight of road traffic.
Road Maintenance Services (November – April)
During the winter season, Public Works staff monitor weather conditions through road patrols and local forecasts to strategically dispatch crews for snow clearing and to ensure safe road conditions for our community.
Snow Removal Regulations
Residents should be aware that By-Law 3678-2024 and the Highway Traffic Act prohibit depositing snow onto roadways, as it creates hazards for both drivers and pedestrians. The By-Law states:
"No person shall deposit or cause to be deposited any snow or ice upon or across any portion of any highway, sidewalk, or bridge within the Township."
Please keep this in mind when clearing driveways or mailbox areas.
Overnight Parking Restrictions
As per By-Law 3679-2024, it is prohibited to park a vehicle on any Township road or boulevard between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. from November 15 to March 31. This helps ensure our snowplows can clear roads efficiently.
Winter Maintenance Policy
The Township follows a structured Winter Maintenance Policy for snow clearing and salting to maintain safe roadways throughout the winter. For more details, see our Winter Road Maintenance FAQ.
Salt Management Plan
The Township adheres to a Salt Management Plan to reduce the environmental impact of road salt while still maintaining safe driving conditions. Please visit our Salt Management Plan Policy for more information.
