Welcome to the Rural Roads page.
This section provides key information on entranceway permits, culvert installations, and mailbox requirements. Browse the sections below for detailed information.
Entrances and Culverts
As per Township By-Law 3711-2024, ALL entranceways must be approved by the Township before installation.
If your property requires an entranceway, please complete the Entranceway Application Form and submit it to the Township office. A $125 permit fee will be required upon application.
Entrances onto county roads:
Applicants wishing to install entrances on county roads must first obtain approval from the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville’s Roads Department before receiving a building permit. You can find their Entranceway Application on their website.
Rural Mailboxes
Mailbox Placement Requirements
To ensure safe snowplowing operations, the following guidelines must be adhered to:
These regulations are essential to allow snowplows to pass without obstruction.
Mailbox Durability
Mailboxes must be sufficiently sturdy to withstand the force of snow, packed snow, and ice created during normal snowplowing operations.
The Township is not responsible for replacing mailboxes if:
- They are built in violation of By-Law 3184-2015.
- They are struck by snow or ice during regular snowplowing.
- They are struck by a snowplow where the mailbox is buried in a snowbank.
- They are not built to withstand normal snowplowing conditions.
For damaged mailboxes suspected to have been hit by a Township plow, please contact us at 613-925-4231 ext. 301.
For further mailbox guidelines, see By-Law 3184-2015 or consult the Canada Post Rural Mailbox Guidelines Pamphlet.
If you reside on a County road, note that the County plows those roads and has its own mailbox guidelines. For any issues with County plowing, contact them at 613-342-3840 ext. 2413.
