MERC Hall, as it’s more commonly known, was built in 1987 and is a not-for-profit facility that is run by a committee of volunteers – the Maitland Education Recreation Corporation. This committee, established in 1964, strives to provide education, recreational and community programs at MERC for all ages. These programs include soccer (for kids), baseball (for adults), senior luncheons, senior exercise classes, an outdoor skating rink and ski/snowshoe/walking trails. MERC also awards an annual bursary for local graduation high school students.

Maitland Trails
Located in behind MERC are several relatively flat cross-country skiing/snow shoeing trails thanks to the generosity of several landowners. There are different trails of various lengths so users can enjoy the experience by making it as long or short as they wish. These trails feature a rest shelter, an outhouse and directional signage.
