The Municipal Act grants Council the authority to pass certain By-Laws to govern affairs of the municipality. A By-Law is the written voice of Council and addresses issues and concerns of the local community.
The Council of the Township of Augusta appoints By-Law Enforcement Officer(s) with the authority to enforce By-Laws passed in the Township as per By-Law 3527-2021.
Augusta Township joined forces with the Town of Prescott and hired Samantha Hansen who will be looking after By-Law issues for both municipalities.
The By-Law Enforcement Officer responds to complaints lodged by residents of the Township and investigates any incidents in order to determine if a violation has taken place. If a violation is noted, the Enforcement Officer follows the procedure established in relation to that particular By-Law in order to rectify the situation.
If you have By-Law related questions or complaints, you can reach Samantha Hansen via email or by phone 613-925-2812 ext. 6205.

Q. Can I operate a business from my home? May I have horses, cattle, chickens etc. on my property?
A. You will need to contact the Planning Department (613-925-4231 ext. 101 or by email planner@augusta.ca) with the address for the property so they can investigate what is and is not allowed on that property based on the Township’s Zoning By-Law (2965-2012).
Q. Does the Township have a noise By-Law? How can I get my neighbours to stop making so much noise?
A. The Township does not have a noise By-Law. This is considered a civil matter between you and your neighbour.
