Gravel Roads and Grading

GRAVEL ROADS AND GRADING

With mild weather, gravel roads may develop some potholes and washboard sections due to the wet conditions. The Township will not be able to work on the roads until the weather is mild enough to grade. Grading while conditions are wet contributes to loose aggregate and allows more moisture to get into the road and may also destabilize sections of roadway. The Township will resume grading once weather conditions allow.

Instead of grading the whole road, the Township spot grades. Why spot grade? Spot grading is done to get the worst parts of the road graded fast and to not open the whole road which would allow more moisture in and keeps the road as stable as possible. Spot grading allows the grader to get more roads done when the weather is mild.
